Indian star Sanju Samson is looking to play the new edition of the Kerala Cricket League (KCL). Just like almost every other state-board-run franchise T20 league, Kerala also introduced their own Kerala Cricket League last year, with several high-profile names from the state plying trades. Samson, however, featured only as the face of the league, as he was on international duties as well.
Samson eyes game time to stay in India contention
Now, according to a report by Onmanorama, the keeper-batter is looking to add his name in the second edition of KCL auction. “A source in the KCA said the wicketkeeper batter has registered for the KCL auction, declaring his willingness to participate in the franchise league, which is expected to take place ahead of the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season,” the report stated.
Last year, KCL ran from September 2 to 18 in Trivandrum, with double-headers every day. The final clash between Calicut Globstars (CG) and Aries Kollam Sailors (AKS) was won by Sachin Baby’s (104*) AKS by six wickets. This year, India have freed up the international calendar due to the scheduled Asia Cup 2025. With the tournament being a T20 format this time, Samson might be doing India duties if KCL 2 takes place in September. That is, considering if Samson is selected for the Men in Blue as well.

Sanju Samson had an ordinary Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, to say the least. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper had a topsy-turvy campaign, mostly missing matches due to injuries. He initially played as an Impact Sub due to his finger fracture. Then, an abdominal injury put another halt, with Samson missing more games. This handed Vaibhav Suryavanshi a chance at the top order. The 14-year-old talent clubbed a historic 35-ball 100 in one of the IPL 2025 clashes against GT.
This has forced Samson to demote himself at number three, with Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal opening in the later stages of the league campaign. Also, scoring just one fifty in the entire IPL 2025 didn’t help his T20I spot as well. Leading up to the IPL 2025, Samson had a horrible fve-match T20I series against England, scoring a mere 51 runs at 10.20 across five outings.
