L’ex selettore BCCI Sunil Joshi ha presentato l’idea di avere Priyansh Arya nei piani T20i dell’India per l’Asia Cup 2025.
The fact that Shubman Gill is likely to be kept away from India’s T20I plans for the Asia Cup, while Yashasvi Jaiswal is only being looked at as a reserve opener, tells a huge story. It gives away the huge pool of talent that India has as far as the shortest format is concerned. Abhishek Sharma is irreplaceable at the moment, being the number one ranked T20I batter, while Sanju Samson smashed three centuries in a span of five games.
However, despite all the battles for an opening spot, a former BCCI selector has thrown in another name. There’s certainly no shortage of talent in India’s T20I setup, and Sunil Joshi has chipped in Priyansh Arya’s name. The talented southpaw from Delhi represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) at IPL 2025, where Joshi assisted as a spin bowling coach. This means Joshi has seen Arya from close quarters and knows a thing or two about him.
Priyansh Arya at Asia Cup 2025?
Good luck to players who are competing for a spot in T20Is for India. There’s so much potential and talent that the BCCI can make three different teams in the format and you’d still back each of them to beat any T20 side at the moment. That’s the level of competition.
While there are countless batting talents, one of them is Arya, who has impressed in the limited opportunities he got. Joshi said that Arya has done quite well, even against some of the best.
“If you look at it, Priyansh has really played well. Why not give him a chance when he has done well! He scored runs against some of the best fast bowlers and best spinners as well,” Sunil Joshi said while speaking to Telecom Asia Sport.
Arya’s shot to fame came when he bludgeoned six sixes in an over during the inaugural season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL). He clubbed 107 (55) in that game and his season tally read 608 runs at an insane strike rate of 198.69 against Delhi’s best bowlers. Ricky Ponting and PBKS showed immense faith in Arya as they signed him for Rs 3.80 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. They didn’t just play him but made him an integral part, with Arya featuring in all the IPL 2025 games, even scoring a fabulous ton against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from a situation when his team was in big trouble (83/5).
