È passato più di un anno da quando Shubman Gill ha giocato un T20 International per l’India.
Shubman Gill recently won the hearts of every Indian cricket fan when he marshalled the troops in an exciting, hard-fought Test series against England. Leading with the bat, Gill delivered an all-timer, hammering over 750 runs as he came ever-so close to Sunil Gavaskar’s historic record of most runs in a Test series. Taking over from Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill’s captaincy was heartwarming and led to a 2-2 series draw. Gill is the talk of Indian cricket right now and thus his name has been making rounds as far as the next assignment, the Asia Cup 2025, is concerned as well.
No Gill in Asia Cup 2025?
Ever since the Test series, Gill’s name has been making rounds. While he is not only deemed to be included in the Asia Cup plans but also entrusted with the vice-captaincy role as well. However, it won’t be plain sailing for the BCCI selectors. As per Revsportz, Gill won’t be an automatic choice at the Asia Cup for India. The stacked Indian top-order is likely to keep Gill out of the final squad, which is likely to be announced near August 20.
As talented as Gill may be, there’s may not be a place for him in the Indian T20I setup. Abhishek Sharma is the world’s highest-ranked T20I batter. Tilak Varma, who has been a revelation at number three, is ranked just below Abhishek. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav is the captain and perhaps the biggest match-winner. Sanju Samson, the other opener, has found a new life ever since Gautam Gambhir and Surya have trusted him as an opener. Gambhir hugely backs Samson, who hit 378 runs, including three centuries, in his last 10 innings.
It would be harsh on Samson or any other player to make way for Gill. After all, Suryakumar Yadav’s having a settled unit. The Gambhir-SKY duo have led India across 15 T20Is and have ended up on the winning side 13 times.
