L’ex giocatore di cricket indiano Sunil Gavaskar ha sostenuto Abhishek Sharma per violare il punteggio a tripla figure nella finale di Ind e Pak Asia Cup
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has backed Abhishek Sharma to play yet another big knock for India in the Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan. The Punjab batter his the highest run-getter in this edition of the tourney and has been consistently performing. While former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar had earlier claimed that India would struggle if Sharma was dismissed in the first two overs, Gavaskar begged to differ.

Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar pointed out that Abhishek would not let opportunities slip by and that he was in red-hot form. The southpaw is in the form of his life and has already scored three half-centuries in the Asia Cup already. Gavaskar reckons that Sharma will play another huge innings and could possibly even breach the triple-figure mark.
“Abhishek Sharma, in particular, won’t let opportunities slip by. He’s been in good form with three half-centuries and, despite an unfortunate run-out that cost him a potential century, he’s likely to aim for another big innings—possibly even a three-figure score,” said Gavaskar.
Abhishek has amassed 309 runs to his name from 6 matches so far in Asia Cup 2025 and averages 51.50. In the last game against Pakistan on September 21, Sharma took all the bowlers to the cleaners and finished with a 74-run to his name. Since then, he has also scored back-to-back fifties in two games.
Akhtar had claimed that Pakistan needed to ignore India’s aura and focus instead on getting as many wickets as possible. He said that by gewtting rid of Abhishek within the first two overs, PAK could do a great deal of help for themselves, adding that the batter would never mistime the ball but PAK had to go for the kill. Sharma is currently the highest run-getter in the ongoing Asia Cup with 248 runs to his name from 5 innings, with two fifties to his name.
“Come out of this mindset, keep their aura aside. Just break their aura. Just play with this mindset that you had in the match against Bangladesh. This is the kind of mindset you need. You don’t need to bowl 20 overs; you just need to get wickets,” Akhtar claimed.
