Lo Sri Lanka potrebbe pesantemente ruotare e consegnare Matheesha Pathirana una partita nello scontro di Ind vs SL a Dubai in Asia Cup 2025.
Sri Lanka face India knowing that their run in the tournament has come to an end. The Charith Asalanka led side have lost both their Super 4 matches and have been knocked out of the race to make the Asia Cup 2025 final. The Lankans will now hope to end their campaign on a high, with the IND vs SL clash a chance to make amends.
Sri Lanka’s overall performance in the Asia Cup 2025 has been lacklustre at best. Having won all three games in the group stage, the Lankans simply failed to make significant strides in the Super 4 stage. Batting has been a major let down for the defending champions, while bowling has simply failed to support Wanindu Hasaranga.
SL Predicted XI: Janith Liyanage to get a game?
With the IND vs SL clash being a dead rubber, head coach Sanath Jayasuriya might move towards handing his fringe players some opportunity. Sri Lanka have largely stuck with the same combination throughout the tournament, with only Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage rotating.
Kamil Mishara and Charith Asalanka have had a tournament to forget. Asalanka has scored only 70 runs in 5 innings, while Mishara has 74 to his name. With Asalanka leading the side, Mishara could make way for Nuwanidu Fernando. Fernando himself has had a tought start to his T20 career but could find himself in the mix on Friday. Janith Liyanage, who began his ODI career with a bang, could also feature instead.
Pathirana set for return
Another candidate to feature could be Matheesha Pathirana. The CSK star has found himself on the bench with Dushmantha Chameera and Nuwan Thushara preferred as the strike pair. Pathirana could likely replace the latter as a fellow slinger and hope to make an impact.
Pathirana’a availability however will be subject to fitness. He missed out on the game against Pakistan due to a shoulder injury suffered in training. Should the 22-year-old be fit, he could feature. Pathirana played in the group stage match against Bangladesh but was dropped after figures of 0/42 in his 4 overs.
