Sahibzada Farhan aveva tirato fuori una “celebrazione delle armi” dopo aver sollevato i suoi cinquanta nel decimo posto della partita, che divise Internet.
Sahibzada Farhan has made more headlines for his controversial gun celebration than his 58-run knock in the India vs Pakistan match. The top scorer from his team looked in fine touch in Dubai on September 21. Unlike his struggles a week ago, this time around, Farhan raced off the block.
Sahibzada Farhan’s controversial gun celebration
In just 34 balls, the Pakistani opener brought up his fifty. The Men in Green were flying high at the moment, and unexpectedly, Farhan mimicked firing a gun with his bat. This didn’t sit well with the Indian public.
Amid all of the geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, Farhan’s gun gesture was viewed in poor taste. Many believe he was mocking the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Some felt it was an ode to the Pakistani army and their narrative that they came out on top of India in the recent skirmish.
Response to criticism
But what does Farhan have to say about it? Attending the pre-match press conference ahead of the Pakistan vs Sri Lanka match on September 23, the opener stated that he hadn’t planned on pulling out the gun celebration and that he doesn’t care what people think about it.
“If you talk about the sixes, you will see that (a lot) in the future. And that (celebration) was just a spur-of-the-moment thing. Usually, I don’t celebrate after scoring a fifty. But, it suddenly came to my mind that let’s do a celebration today. I did that. I don’t know how people will take it. I don’t care about that,” Farhan told reporters in Abu Dhabi.
The 29-year-old stated that the Pakistani team will continue to play aggressive cricket. Whether he means doing celebrations or their bowlers, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf, cursing the opposition or actually winning matches against top teams, one doesn’t know.
“And the rest, you know, you should play aggressive cricket wherever you play. It is not necessary that it be India. You should play aggressive cricket against every team, like we played today,” he added.
