The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that the Duleep Trophy 2025 will be live telecast. The confirmation comes after fans were left outraged as the Quarterfinal 1 and 2 held in BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru were neither live telecast nor streamed. The tournament, which marked the start of India’s domestic season, commenced on August 28. with he final scheduled to be held from September 11-14.
Duleep Trophy final to be live telecast
Speaking to Times of India, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed that the board has an agreement with the broadcaster where 100 days of domestic cricket will be covered. He claimed that the board gives utmost importance to domestic cricket and went on to state that it was the reason why most of the Indian players were seen participating in the tournaments.
“There will be live telecast of Duleep Trophy final. We have an agreement with the broadcaster to ensure live coverage of 100 days of domestic cricket, which means all our domestic tournaments are covered live. The BCCI gives utmost importance to domestic cricket, which is why you will see almost all Indian players in action in these matches,” the BCCI secretary said.
Why was there no live telecast of Duleep Trophy quarterfinals?
As per Times of India, a source claimed that the BCCI’s contract with the broadcaster only allowed for a fixed number of India Cricket telecast days. The source informed that no match, apart from the Duleep Trophy final, will be telecast or live streamed.
“The BCCI has a contract with its official broadcaster for a fixed number of India Cricket telecast days. These have to be managed carefully. Only the Duleep Trophy final will be telecast live on television and streamed online. But this needs to improve from fans’ perspective,” a source told the publication.
