Shubman Gill won’t be participating in the Duleep Trophy. The Indian Test captain was named North Zone’s skipper and was expected to lead against East Zone in the first quarterfinal. However, last week Gill came down with the weather.
Gill to skip Duleep Trophy
According to The Times of India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) medical staff haven’t found anything alarming in Gill’s blood report and he’s currently covering in Mohali.
The 25-year-old has been named India’s vice-captain for the Asia Cup and needs to be at his best for the tournament. Gill will report at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru by August 31 and is being trained at full tilt by them.
Fitness tests underway at CoE
The likes of Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer have already undergone pre-season fitness assessment at the CoE. Gill will now join Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, who are expected to undergo a fitness test on either August 30 or 31.
Gill won’t be the only Indian cricketer present at the CoE. Fitness checks for Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, and Sai Sudharsan are underway. Mohammed Siraj, who has been resting since the India vs England Test series, will fly out to Bengaluru soon and most likely undergo fitness tests at the same time as Gill, Rohit, and Rahul.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who suffered a knee injury midway through the England tour, has been camped at the CoE for some time and will need some more time to recover. Rishabh Pant, who’s recovering from a foot injury and recently had his plaster removed, will arrive in Bengaluru soon.
