After embarrassing bilateral series losses, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has turned to the ICC Academy in Dubai for an intensive training camp. They need answers quickly, as the national team scrambles to regain form ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. Beginning August 22, the camp will allow players to acclimatise to UAE conditions and prepare for two key assignments. A tri-nation T20I series featuring Afghanistan and the UAE, followed by the Asia Cup itself.
According to a report by Revsportz, the PCB’s decision comes on the back of a string of dismal performances. Pakistan’s year has been filled with chaos, as the team has only managed two wins in 11 ODIs and lost a T20I series to 10th-ranked Bangladesh. Also, an under-strength West Indies unit, also ranked 10th in ODIs, managed to beat a full-strength Pakistan unit that involved Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah.
Tri-series a dress rehearsal before Asia Cup 2025
The immediate task for Pakistan will be the tri-nation T20I series in Sharjah starting August 29, where they meet Afghanistan in the opening game. The format provides Pakistan with ample opportunities to refine their skills, and the selectors are likely to rotate their team, potentially including two or three new players.
Unlike India, Pakistan possibly have five matches before the Asia Cup. The entire series will be played in Sharjah, while the Asia Cup matches will be played in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The Asia Cup itself kicks off on September 9 in Dubai, but realistically, the fixture everyone has circled is September 14, the day Pakistan meet India. The two arch-nemesis are in the same group alongside UAE and Oman.
