Negli ultimi due eventi ICC di Rohit e Dravid come capitano e capo allenatore dell’India, l’India ha vinto 18 partite su 20.
It was meant to be. India’s T20 World Cup victory in 2024 was part of destiny. Two years prior, the Men in Blue were exposed by England. That 10-wicket loss in the semifinal changed how India played. Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid adopted a more aggressive approach.
When Rohit Sharma stopped Rahul Dravid from stepping down
Their efforts almost bore fruit in the ODI World Cup 2023, but Australia denied them glory. India was on a historic run, but the Aussies had other ideas. The loss was tough. Dravid wanted to step down. “Rahul bhai wanted to step down after the 2023 World Cup,” Rohit told JioStar.
But with the T20 World Cup 2024 around the corner, Rohit convinced him to stay. Dravid agreed, as he too wanted redemption. But it looked like the dream to end India’s ICC drought wasn’t going to come true. South Africa needed just 30 runs from 5 overs and had 6 wickets in hand. But then, everything fell in India’s favour.
Hardik Pandya getting Heinrich Klaasen out. Jasprit Bumrah coming clutch again. That Suryakumar Yadav catch. The dream came true and one couldn’t believe it was the same Dravid we had seen over the years. The legendary batter was jumping in delight. And all of this happened because Rohit told him to continue as India’s head coach for a few months.
“But we said, ‘There’s another World Cup in six months. We’ve come this far. Let’s give it one more shot.’ He agreed – and I’m so glad he did. I’m sure even now he feels that he made the right decision,” Rohit told JioStar.
