Tradizionalmente, l’Inghilterra è stata l’ospite preferito per la finale del WTC, sfruttando il suo clima estivo favorevole e la forte vendita dei biglietti domestici.
India recently announced its intention to bid for the rights to host the prestigious 2027 World Test Championship (WTC) Final, signaling a significant shift in the landscape of international cricket. According to The Guardian, the proposal is expected to be formally presented to the International Cricket Council (ICC) this summer, sparking discussions about the global footprint of Test cricket.
Securing the WTC Final would be a monumental achievement for the BCCI. With key figures like Jay Shah playing prominent roles within the ICC, India’s bid carries substantial weight. Arun Singh Dhumal, the BCCI’s chief executive and India’s representative on the ICC committee, is expected to play a pivotal role in presenting the bid. However, the ambition isn’t without challenges.
England’s Scheduling Dilemma
Traditionally, England has been the preferred host for the WTC Final, leveraging its favorable summer climate and strong domestic ticket sales. If India’s bid succeeds, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will be forced to rearrange its summer schedule, potentially adding another home Test series to compensate for the absence of the high-profile final.
