Crediti: Zaheer Khan / X

The IPL 2025 season came to an end, and less than 48 hours later, teams are already scrambling for plans towards next season. Among the major talking points is Lucknow Super Giants, with mentor Zaheer Khan facing an uncertain future. LSG, under Rishabh Pant, finished seventh with just 6 wins in 14 games. Head coach Justin Langer’s future also remains unclear.

LSG set for coaching staff rejig, Zaheer Khan, Justin Langer set for exit

As per Cricbuzz, both Zaheer Khan and Justin Langer signed one-year contracts for IPL 2025. LSG’s poor performance, however, has raised questions regarding the suitability of their current personnel. Zaheer was onboarded as a mentor before the IPL 2025 Auction, and it is unlikely he continues beyond the season.

Langer was brought to work alongside the former India pacer, but it is unclear how the two got along. The report suggests that there remains dissatisfaction with the squad and the management. Langer, who coached the Australian cricket team, is believed to be under less pressure with the spotlight on Zaheer. The season marked the second consecutive season in which LSG failed to make the Top 4. While Khan wasn’t part of the staff in 2024, he could be held accountable for performances this season.

LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka is known for his active involvement in the franchise. It was Goenka’s outburst with KL Rahul in 2024 that eventually led to his release. He was often seen in discussions with Rishabh Pant on the sidelines after the game. Pant, it is understood, enjoys a good relationship with Zaheer Khan. However, his own form hasn’t helped matters.

Langer however could also be on the way out. After Andy Flower led LSG to the playoffs in back to back seasons, Langer has led them to two middling seasons. Flower now has an IPL title with RCB, ending their 18-year run. Among the 10 teams in the league, Lucknow are among the three to have never lifted the trophy.
