With the Mumbai Indians (MI) prevailing over the Delhi Capitals (DC), the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Playoffs are set. Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) had already qualified a couple of days ago. The MI vs DC match was going to decide the fourth team.
We may have the four teams, but we still don’t know the finishing order. And that’s what is the most interesting. For those who aren’t aware, the teams which finish in the top two spots get two chances to qualify for the IPL Final. The teams ranked 1st and 2nd play the Qualifier 1. The winner of the clash reaches the Final. The loser gets to play the Eliminator.
The 3rd and 4th ranked teams play the Qualifier 2. The winner qualifies for the Eliminator. The loser is knocked out. And then the winner of the Eliminator reaches the Final. That’s why finishing in the top two means a lot more.

Path towards Qualifier 1
A current look at the standings would suggest that GT has the best chance to finish in the top two. They have Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who have lost their last 4 matches, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are the worst team of IPL 2025. RCB aren’t far behind. They too face LSG. And then they have Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who beat LSG in their last game.
PBKS has 2 matches left, but against difficult opponents. They face DC, who were the last team to be knocked out from the Playoffs race. Then they have MI. This match could be very important. Because assuming GT and RCB lose their matches, and PBKS loses to DC, this game could decide who finishes on top of the IPL 2025 points table.
